Parramatta Light Rail Urban Design Framework

The Parramatta Light Rail Urban Design Framework establishes an overarching framework and narrative for the light rail corridor. The principal focus of the document is to help develop the urban vision and higher level ‘city shaping’ strategy around PLR, to ensure the project will be more than just a transport and engineering project – delivering robust and high quality public domain and streetscape outcomes in both existing and new urban transformation precincts.

Location:
Greater Parramatta, NSW
Client:
Transport for NSW
Duration:
2015 – 2017

CONTEXT, in conjunction with COX Architecture, was responsible for identifying prevailing conditions in the light rail corridor and directing an appropriate urban response. The framework draws on experience from previous light rail projects in developing a best-practice guide to placemaking around light rail, including considerations for placemaking, streetscape integration, light rail specific infrastructure and customer experience.

Precinct integration and placemaking principles are combined with key design guidelines to underpin the planning, design and development of the preferred light rail route in future stages of the project.
