South Head Masterplan

CONTEXT was tasked by the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) to develop a masterplan for the South Head precinct of Sydney Harbour National Park, an iconic and culturally significant landscape in Sydney. South Head holds a rich cultural narrative encompassing Aboriginal heritage, European settlement, and its role in protection and defence.

Location:
South Head, Watsons Bay
Client:
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service
Duration:
2021 – ongoing

The masterplan outlines a 20-year vision for the precinct, focusing on repurposing existing buildings, upgrading visitor facilities, enhancing walking tracks, interpretation, wayfinding, and ensuring public safety. It aims to enrich the visitor experience while preserving the natural, cultural, and historical heritage of this unique national park area.

Developed in collaboration with TKD Architects and the Gujaga Foundation, the masterplan embraces the significance of Place, celebrating Aboriginal culture, Sydney’s history, and the area’s natural values within the national park framework
