CONTEXT led the masterplan and detailed design for the transformation of Macquarie Park, a riverfront destination along the Hawkesbury River at Windsor. Commissioned by Hawkesbury City Council and supported by the NSW Government’s Places to Swim initiative, the project enhances public access to the river, revitalises a historically significant swimming spot, and reimagines the park as a safe, inclusive and ecologically responsive place for recreation.

At its heart is a new beach precinct designed to prioritise safety, passive surveillance and environmental sensitivity. Shaded BBQ and picnic areas with clear views to the water create inviting conditions for families and community gatherings, while integrated emergency access supports public safety. Adjacent to the beach, a regional-scale nature play space draws inspiration from the river’s rich ecologies and the Warre Seeds, offering natural and sensory play experiences for children of all abilities.
This enhancement supports broader goals of equitable access to cool, swimmable places across Western Sydney, strengthening the community’s connection to the Hawkesbury River.
