La Perouse Headland

La Perouse Headland has a rich history and heritage values that are important to all Australians. It holds cultural and spiritual significance for the Aboriginal community and marks a point of early contact between the Kameygal people and European explorers.

Location:
La Perouse, NSW
Client:
Randwick City Council
Duration:
2019

Following a lease agreement with the National Parks and Wildlife Service, Randwick City Council engaged CONTEXT and TKD Architects to upgrade the La Perouse Museum, Monument, Watchtower, and Headland within the stunning Kamay Botany Bay National Park.

This management transfer offers an opportunity to develop a long-term enhancement plan for the Headland. The Masterplan aims to:

  • Enhance the landscape and improve visitor access while preserving its uncluttered character and views
  • Revitalise the buildings and monuments
  • Share the stories of the Headland to highlight its natural, cultural, and spiritual significance
