The Newcastle Airport International Terminal Expansion is officially underway. Once complete, the project will significantly enhance the airport’s capacity, operational efficiency, and overall user experience. This transformative upgrade includes a new premium covered car park and has been designed to accommodate wide-bodied aircraft, enabling direct international flights—particularly to Southeast Asia—and offering greater convenience for travellers flying internationally from Regional NSW.
The landscape design is inspired by the surrounding coastal dune ecosystem, featuring raised garden beds and integrated seating in the main entry plaza. Native plant species were carefully selected to support biodiversity and reduce the risk of bird strikes. Key technical considerations included terminal access, safety, and the integration of hostile vehicle mitigation through thoughtfully designed plaza furniture.
The first phase of the project—the Premium Covered Car Park—is now complete and open, providing travellers with a first-class parking experience. It incorporates electric vehicle charging stations, 1,235 rooftop solar panels, and architectural elements that reflect and complement the design of the expanded terminal.
