Taronga Zoo Amphibian + Reptile Conservation Centre

CONTEXT was commissioned to design the visitor centre for the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Centre (ARC) at Taronga Zoo. This new facility offers an immersive journey through six habitats, from frosty sub-alpine regions to scorching deserts.

Location:
Taronga Zoo, Mosman NSW
Client:
Taronga Conservation Society Australia
Duration:
2021 – 2024

Taronga Zoo leads Australia’s reptile and amphibian conservation efforts, working to save seven species from extinction. Five of these species—the Yellow-spotted Bell Frog, Bellinger River Snapping Turtle, Booroolong Frog, Southern Corroboree Frog, and Northern Corroboree Frog—will be showcased at ARC. Taronga collaborates closely with the NSW Government’s ‘Saving our Species Program’ on these initiatives.

ARC features a Forest Walk and a constructed ‘Gully’ reflecting the site’s former creek. The building blends seamlessly into the landscape with a Green facade, integrating the facility into its surroundings.
