Berrys Bay forms a ‘missing link’ in publicly accessible foreshore open space on the Peninsula, sitting between Carradah Park to its north and Balls Head Reserve to its south. Berrys Bay will be returned to the community for public open space after it is no longer required for construction of the Western Harbour Tunnel. CONTEXT developed a Landscape Masterplan that shaped the vision for the future of Berrys Bay as a public space.
The Masterplan aimed to heal Country, convert grey infrastructure to green and blue, and bring Indigenous histories and stories to life, as well as reflect the multiple layers of history that such a site brings with it. Environmental repair through the reintroduction of habitat and rehabilitating of existing ecologies promise to drive landscape interventions and design solutions.
Open spaces and parklands allow for flexibility in responding to evolving needs of the local community and broader Sydney public.
Continuous, publicly accessible connections to the harbour foreshore were a priority, revealing a variety of experiences of the water’s edge throughout the site.
