The creation of a spatially cohesive landscape spine linking the lower and upper campus of the University, along a central east-west axis, is the inspiration behind the pedestrian mall upgrade. CONTEXT undertook the ‘Mall Vision’ revitalization which saw the landscaped axis extending from Anzac Parade entry to The Spooner Walk, Scientia Lawn and the Goodsell Courtyard. The new campus axis is highlighted with sandstone and corten steel feature walls and sculptural elements providing informal seating framed by the refurbished faculty buildings. The Mall won the Street Smart Awards 2001and the AILA National Project Award of Merit 2000.
