The restoration and modification of the Commonwealth Government’s first Parliamentary Gardens was awarded the 1994 National Project Award of Merit from AILA. The Master Plan and associated Appraisal Report, Landscape Management Plan and Historical Report, was envisioned to create a legible and identifiable public domain by unifying the Senate Gardens and House of Representative adjacent precincts, and reinvigorating the National Rose Garden established in the grounds in the 1920’s. The design involved the introduction of an interpretive program for visitors and incorporated sensitively designed kiosks, shelters and visitor facilities inspired by the parliamentary buildings.
