Nanjing Waterfront Master Plan, Hexi Nanjing, China
commissioned by Nanjing Waterfront Association
in conjunction with COX Group
Designed in conjunction with COX Architects, the one kilometre Nanjing Waterfront is the first stage of a twenty-four kilometre long parkland development adjacent to China’s mighty Yangtze River. The competition winning master plan combines significant open spaces and water bodies and traces the narrative of the Yangtze River as it traverses the country from the high plains through gorges to the Yangtze Delta at the China Sea. The plan incorporates a series of picturesque settings including a contemporary Fisherman’s Wharf, extensive gardens, meadows, lotus lakes, wetlands and water polishing ponds. Working with architects, the team addressed major environmental challenges to create this new recreation focus for the new city centre of Nanjing.
