Nanjing Cultural Axis, Hexi Nanjing

Working with COX Architects, CONTEXT prepared the landscape master plan and design for the 1.5 km pedestrian axis connecting the Yangtze River to the site of the 2005 Asian Games in Nanjing. Framed by cultural buildings, the axis is a rectilinear ceremonial water feature which flows into a naturalistic parkland of trees and grassed public amenities. The 100m wide axis incorporates a series of landscaped “outdoor rooms” featuring themes related to Chinese classical art, poetry, calligraphy, music and dance.
