Foundation Park, The Rocks

CONTEXT directed the revitalisation of the historically and culturally significant Foundation Park site located in The Rocks, Australia’s oldest area of European settlement. The park was awarded the 1996 National Project Award of Merit from AILA for overcoming the site’s inherent constraints, to successfully knit together the existing fabric with the strands of site’s heritage features, culture and archaeology. The artist Peter Cole’s corten steel sculptures evoking the site’s domestic past add a level of intimacy and ambience to the recreated ‘outdoor rooms’ in the park.
