Centennial Park Ponds Interpretation Trail
| commissioned by | | Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust |
This project, which was awarded the 1998 AILA Project Award of Merit and the 2000 AILA National Project Award of Merit, illustrates three key principles of the landscape design, environmental sensitivity, innovation and sustainability. CONTEXT led the team of engineers, artists and wetland scientists in the creative interpretation of the ecology of Centennial Ponds, once the source of nineteenth century Sydney’s Water Supply. The design incorporates artworks and signage telling the story of the ponds through four distinct themes, of water source and ecology; the history of pollution; aboriginal and European use of ponds, and management and community action. The project was listed as one of the top 40 landscape projects in Australia 2005.
