Bicentennial Park Improvements, Stage 2
| commissioned by | | Bicentennial Park Trust and Olympic Coordination Authority |
| in conjunction with | | Richard Goodwin Artist / Architect ACOR Engineering |
CONTEXT was commissioned to prepare the concept design and documentation for improvements to the existing East West access corridor for the 2000 Olympics. Set within a landscape of Grey Mangroves, the redesign of Powell's Creek pedestrian bridge provided an excellent opportunity to reinforce the qualities of surrounding landscape forms. A main focus of the pedestrian corridor improvements was to enhance the existing bridge structure for pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Working with artist Richard Goodwin, the bridge features railings that reflect the curves and lines of mangrove roots. Casuarina trees, under-planted with native grasses and tussocks were planted to reconnect the creek with the adjacent open space areas.
